Internet Real Estate Veterans Leverage SEO to Weather the Economic Storm, with a Little Help from Intelligent Office
Mary and Ted Macy have been serving the residential and light commercial real estate requirements of Atlanta’s north side since 1986. Along the way they have had ample time to see much of the area where they focus their efforts transform from rural roads and horse farms to traffic-filled suburbia.
Their business has matured along with their community, something they attribute largely to the power of the internet.
“In the early 90s there were very few real estate agencies on the internet and, frankly, the first internet firm we approached about creating a website for us asked us why we wanted to be on the internet,” explains Mary Macy.
Today www.topagents.com is one of just 80 domains owned and operated by the Macy Team as part of their highly effective approach to marketing real estate via the internet. Simply having content and history with a domain that has been on the Internet since 1995 has earned them a sizable following as well as respect from their industry. Ted Macy was recognized as the #1 internet agent in the mid-90s. Subsequently the Macy Team has gained national recognition and is often invited to speak about their internet business at large real estate conventions.
“When we speak at conventions it is about search engine optimization (SEO),” explains Mary Macy. “We both have technology backgrounds and have been able to make intelligent use of the tools on the internet to generate traffic for our sellers and to help our buyers access the information they need about moving into the community.”
In addition to their many domains, you’ll find the Macy Team on Facebook and LinkedIn and may soon encounter them on Twitter.
“The boomer audience is showing the greatest increase in use on twitter right now,” continues Macy.
This approach must be working. In a normal market, successful realtors generate 80% of their business from referrals. In the current market, it is the Macy Team’s internet business that is keeping them in business and generating some 60% of new customers.
“We still do a sizeable move-up business but it is through the significant investment that we’ve made in continuing education that we’ve been able to differentiate ourselves and secure national and international corporate relocations,” explains Macy.
The Macy Team boasts an entire alphabet soup of industry designations including the ABR® designation which is nationally recognized for Accredited Buyer’s Representative, Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES), Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), Council of Residential Specialist (CRS) and e-Pro (certification for internet-savvy real estate professionals). Why is all this important to buyers and sellers? Because it further emphasizes their dedication to the field.
When they’re not busy moving real estate, this energetic team goes on the road as trainers for Anthony Robbins.
It should come as no surprise that Mary Macy found Intelligent Office on the internet.
“We were looking for first floor entry but also for or organization that offered the flexibility to work with us on the way we wanted to work with them,” explains Macy.
Three years later the Macy Team is still using the Roswell location for professional address services and on-demand client meetings.
