Insurance Veteran Re-enters Industry with New Business Consulting Firm, with a Little Help from Intelligent Office

Rory Robichaux first entered the insurance business more than twenty years ago as an advisor to major insurance firms. He routinely consulted the Citi Groups of the world, gathering alongside their corporate and operations people to help them structure programs, policies and operations. As a recognized industry specialist, he sat on the board of a major insurance magazine, bylined articles and was a routinely called upon expert speaker.

Later Robichaux transitioned to a career in sales and marketing where he quickly recognized the importance not only of customer service but of offering value-added services as a point of differentiation.

In 2008 Robichaux married his two worlds when he formed Parotis Insurance, a business insurance firm that specializes in risk assessment and mitigation planning services.

“What we’re offering is much more than just an insurance policy,” explains Robichaux. “Because of my industry experience and Parotis Insurance's offerings we’re able to provide risk assessment and risk mitigation planning services in addition to insurance products.”

Risk assessment is effectively evaluating the risks that are inherent in the operation of a business whether it involves the construction of a product or the delivery of a product. Sometimes those risks may be leaks, fires or other operational risks; sometimes those risks are natural disasters like tornados and floods.

Parotis helps a business look at certain operational aspects of their company to help them avoid reoccurrence of a risk or prepare for the advent of risk. This preparation and planning can minimize downtime and address the steps that would be required to get their business back up and running as quickly and cost-effectively as possible in the case of a natural disaster. For a technical firm that may be some kind of Business Continuity Planning to maintain access to their online services. For a manufacturing firm, that might include developing a plan to reduce workplace safety issues.

In the long run, Robichaux knows that this expertise will set him apart from the competition and allow him do a better job matching a business’ needs to the appropriate insurance products and the appropriate insurance companies for those products. In addition, he notes that the effective execution of a well-constructed risk mitigation plan can drive both top-line revenues and bottom-line profitability in the event disaster strikes.

“Offering risk assessment and risk mitigation planning services doesn’t change the customers we work with,” begins Robichaux. “It changes the way the customers we work with view risk and their readiness and ability to recover from the advent of disaster.”
