DogWatch Atlanta Gives Pets & Owners Freedom, with a Little Help from Intelligent Office

“We keep dogs and cats safe in the yard using radio signal technology,” promises Shannon Potvin, owner of Atlanta DogWatch, a pet containment company.

The DogWatch Hidden Fence System operates on FM radio signal whereas other systems operate on an AM radio signal. DogWatch patented the FM signal in 1999 and thus is still the only firm able to provide a system on that platform. Potvin purchased the Atlanta dealership in 2004 after 6 years as a DogWatch client.

Why FM Radio?

“FM Radio is clearer, without interference, and provides a faster, stronger and more reliable signal,” states Potvin.

AM collars can be activated by stray radio signals. With FM, there are no chances of false activations. Additional technical benefits include eight times longer battery life on the collar and a faster reaction time. “Something that is crucial for keeping a fast dog from running through the fence,” continues Potvin.

Some of Potvin’s best clients are those who went to PetsMart and bought a system then brought it home and were left scratching their heads wondering why it doesn’t work.

“Training the dog on the fence and conditioning them on how to retreat off the warning beep on the collar is crucial. People don’t get that themselves,” explains Potvin. “Once they start reading the instructions on a PetsMart product, they often take them back and call us.”

Although installation of a DogWatch system requires that a complete loop be buried in your yard, “customers can’t even tell we’ve been there because there is absolutely no disruption to landscaping,” continues Potvin.

Little white flags marking the boundaries of where your dog can go are the only reminder left after a morning installation. Early that afternoon, a DogWatch trainer arrives to begin teaching pet and owner a series of reinforcement sessions on how to use the fence.

“It takes about 5 days after the fence is installed for the dog to understand the perimeter,” states Potvin. “During this time, the owner has to repeat the 5 minute training sessions.”

After that, pets and owners are left with freedom plus 100% containment in the yard.

“It keeps every dog contained,” promises Potvin. “We’ve been in Atlanta more than 20 years and there is no dog that we can’t keep in the yard.”

Potvin meets with more than 100 homeowners each month across the 33 metro Atlanta counties in her territory which spans from Athens to Dahlonega to Carrolton to Peachtree City.

Customer referrals are her biggest source of new opportunities but representing a product that has maintained the top making tops on Consumer’s Digest list of containment products for 10 years in a row helps her to close business.

Last year Potvin found that when she and her staff were busy meeting with clients, they had difficulty getting to all of their calls, “even when we forwarded them to our cell phones in the field.”

So in October 2008 they joined the Intelligent Office family on the recommendation of a vendor who introduced IO by describing their staff as “so helpful and efficient your prospects won’t even realize they are speaking with a service.”
