Mernice Oliver Agency Helps Families Protect What is Most Important, with Help from Intelligent Office

As the owner of an American Family insurance agency, Mernice Oliver gets the opportunity to solve problems for a lot of drivers. Lately this means she spends a significant amount of her time working as a teen safe driving advocate, partnering with high schools and vocational-technical schools to help implement programs for teenagers and young adults to help promote safe driving.

Oliver has been in the insurance and financial services industry for 18 years, providing home, auto, business and life insurance. She markets her services primarily to women business owners and families with teenage drivers.

“We also help drivers who have had a hiccup in their record and cannot find affordable auto insurance get coverage,” explains Oliver.

Oliver served as an investigator for State Farm before joining an All State agency and finally opening her own American Family insurance agency in 2008. It was with American Family that she gained special insight into helping young drivers.

“American Family customers qualify to have a Teen Safe Driving Camera installed in the car primarily driven by their teenage driver,” explains Oliver. “We give them use of this camera for free.”

The camera is part of the Teen Safe Driver Program™. The camera is activated only in the case of certain incidents, like a high rate of speed, an abrupt stop or failure to maintain a lane. When activated, the camera records what is going on inside and outside the car for a period of 30 seconds. Teens know the camera is in their car and are thereby encouraged to adhere to safe driving habits.

“Drivers know that the camera is going to record them putting on lipstick, talking on the phone, waving out the window to a friend or simply transporting someone who is not supposed to be in their car,” continues Oliver.

American Family has seen a 40% decrease in teen driver accidents since installing the teen driver cameras.

Oliver has taken advantage of the program to form alliances with Brookwood and Berkmar High Schools in Gwinnett County and has already installed cameras in dozens of her client’s cars.

Oliver cherishes the personal relationships that she has developed and maintained with her clients over the years. The Teen Safe Driver Program is just one more way that she can attend to customers who are like part of her extended family.

Unfortunately her busy schedule means that she isn’t always available to immediately take calls from every client and that is what led her to Intelligent Office.

“With the fast pace of what is going on in our industry, there is a tremendous need for me to have someone in my office to provide support to customers and field inquiries for competitive quotes,” explains Oliver. “When the time comes that my office is empty and no one is available to answer phones or take messages that is where Intelligent Office comes into play.”

Oliver came to Intelligent Office earlier this year on recommendation from long-term IO family member, Pilcher and Pettus. Today she uses IO for live answer support.
