When disaster strikes, Pilcher & Pettus Construction pitches in with a little help from Intelligent Office

Who do you call when lightning strikes, your building catches fire, or a tree falls on your home? After your insurance agent, you may be uncertain about who would be best to call in such an emergency. The same handy man who fixes your faucets may not be up to the task; likely, your housekeeper doesn’t have the proper equipment for the mess; and, your landscaper prefers sod installation to roof repair.

Since 1991, the professionals at Pilcher & Pettus Construction Inc. have provided insurance restoration services to property owners to recover from such disasters. Insurance restoration services are a unique subset of the construction industry. When an existing structure – either residential or commercial – sustains damage, a claim is filed with the insurance company to have the property restored. An insurance restoration company is a specialist who works in conjunction with the insurer to make certain that they pay what they owe. Pilcher & Pettus has the experience to anticipate the hidden problems and has the history to assure the insurance company will understand what is needed to properly restore the property.

“It goes far beyond simple repairs,” explains Bud Pettus, Jr. “We work with the insurers’ representatives to help them see and comprehend the extent of the damage. Often, there are things not immediately visible. We help them plan for, and pay for, all work related to the insured loss.”

What further sets Pilcher & Pettus Construction apart from other general contractors is their long-standing relationships with insurance companies, agents and adjusters. For the better-part of 20 years, Bud Pettus, Jr. has been estimating insurance losses and Keith Pilcher has been working in the construction restoration industry. Combined, Keith and Bud have personal relationships with several contacts at every major insurer in Greater Metro Atlanta.

“If your house burns to the ground and you call Mr. Joe Remodeler, the disadvantage is that he probably doesn’t know how to write an insurance estimate and doesn’t know anybody in the industry,” says Pilcher. “In contrast, we know and work off the same databases as the insurance companies and the relationships that we’ve established over the years provide an infinite pool of resources to complete any restoration.”

Pilcher & Pettus are so widely known and respected by the area insurance agents that often they are invited to accompany claim representatives to the claim site to give an estimate for repairs on behalf of the insurance company. By providing an honest and fair assessment of each situation, along with quality restoration work, Pilcher & Pettus Construction Inc. has been able to grow their team of project managers, support staff, and pool of subcontractors. As a result, Pilcher & Pettus always has a resource available to provide a prompt assessment of each repair, with Keith Pilcher and Bud Pettus spearheading the larger projects.

Pilcher & Pettus Construction joined the Intelligent Office family in early 2007 after an introduction by their attorney who is also an IO family member. They take full advantage of the receptionist services to make sure that no call goes unanswered.

“It has greatly improved our customer service in that everyone in the office can be assisting customers and we still don’t miss a call,” stated Pamela, their very enthusiastic office manager.

“Having that live person answer the phone is key,” continues Pamela. “Before we came to IO and the phone would ring while all of our staff was tied up on another line we could watch the call roll to our automated voice mail attendant and see the caller hang up.”

“We don’t lose callers to impersonal voice mail anymore,” explains Pamela.
