International Shipping Company Delivers Personalized Service with Help from Intelligent Office.
As a freight forwarder and NVOCC, the only difference between EB Logistics and the steam ship lines moving goods and raw materials around the globe is that EBL doesn’t own any vessels.
NVOCC stands for Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier and is the industry term used for shippers who place filled containers onto the vessel of other steam ship lines.
Edgar Bagdasaryan entered the industry in 2003, working on the client side managing the logistics of their manufactured goods exports. He later joined his uncle in establishing their own export distribution operation. Early in 2010 he took what he had learned about the culture and importance of relationships in this industry and started his own business.
“Since 2004 I have realized that if I wanted to do something bigger and better, I have to make decisions on my own,” explains Bagdasaryan. “The only way to do that is to have your own business,”
Today Bagdasaryan’s firm EB Logistics ships almost anything from household goods, automotive parts and cosmetics to construction and even hazardous materials.
“I started our business by working personal contacts and manufacturing industry export connections,” continues Bagdasaryan. Later trade shows helped to build the business.
This month, their export containers hold construction adhesive materials and about 400 different automotive care products ranging from lubricants and aerosols to flammable liquids. The containers, which contain a mixture of hazardous and non-hazardous materials, are destined for countries in North Africa and the Middle East, just a few of the 88 different countries EB Logistics serves.
Competitors come and go as they struggle with the intricacies of this relationship-based business. That is what keeps most businesses loyal to established firms and professionals like Bagdasaryan, who proudly notes that he hasn’t lost a customer in six years.
“We work in a lot of countries where importing is difficult and customs requirements can be difficult,” continues Bagdasaryan. “It is important to know their culture and their customs as well as their regulations in order to better service our clients.”
There are seven different government agencies that monitor the import/export logistics industry. Maintaining certifications and keeping training up to date is critical to remain in compliance.
“Some customers require special attention and receive more customized services like bank documents and legalization because of the regulations unique to their country,” states Bagdasaryan. “Initiating new relationships with them can be tough but once we handle their first shipment, it gets much easier because we understand their style and learn their expectations.”
Customers are drawn to Edgar by his industry knowledge as well as the personal level of service they receive as his customer. It was their common approach to personalized service that helped Bagdasaryan find a home at Intelligent Office.
Currently he operates his business out of a home office and uses Intelligent Office for professional address services. As his business grows, so does his staff and dependence on Intelligent Office for support. Sooner or later he’ll be looking to IO for a larger and more permanent space.
